If, as a follow-up, I ask them to explain a particular part of the text, most will immediately admit they do not know the answer. In early iterations of this project, skipping this step meant that many of the books were a random assortment of pictures and words copied from different parts of a history textbook. To be sure all students had thought about their book, I had them fill out a group planning form. I will say that there are limitations to Toondoo, but my students love to experiment with creating characters and stories with this FREE web-based tool.
